Malone & White Solicitors Ltd, trading as Legal Advisor, was founded to give ordinary people access to the same quality of legal representation previously available only to those who could afford it. We’re a growing, SRA-regulated firm based in Bolton — and we’re looking for people who share that purpose.

Why work here

We’re honest about what we offer. These are the four things people consistently say matter most about working at Legal Advisor.

01

Work that means something

Our clients are tenants in damp homes, workers with damaged hearing, people mis-sold finance. Winning for them isn’t abstract — you see exactly what your work does, case by case.

02

Responsibility early

We’re a focused firm, not a giant one. Good people get real responsibility quickly — and progression that isn’t stuck behind a queue of people who’ve simply been there longer.

03

Straight-talking culture

The same plain-English honesty we give clients applies inside the firm. Clear expectations, direct feedback, no politics. You’ll always know where you stand.

04

High professional standards

We’re SRA-regulated and take our compliance obligations seriously. If you care about doing things right — not cutting corners for volume — you’ll find people here who feel the same.

Being Legal Advisor

We’ve been asking our people what working here actually means to them. These are their words, not ours.

“My role isn’t just about managing compliance — it’s about making sure the trust clients place in us is genuinely earned, every day. In a firm this size, I can see the direct connection between the standards we set internally and the outcomes clients experience. That matters to me enormously.”

Who we look for

Skills and experience matter — but they’re not the whole picture. We look for people who reflect the values the firm is built on.

Transparent — honest with clients and colleagues, even when the message is difficult. No spin, no avoiding hard conversations.
Expert — committed to knowing your area well and keeping that knowledge current. We’re a specialist firm; generalism isn’t a virtue here.
Results-focused — motivated by outcomes for clients, not by looking busy. You measure your day by what you achieved, not what you processed.
People-first — you remember there’s a person in a stressful situation behind every file. You communicate in plain English and treat every client the way you’d want a family member treated.

Honest answers to real questions

The things candidates actually want to know — answered directly.

Do I need a legal background to apply?
It depends on the role. Our case handler and client care positions are often suited to people from other service backgrounds who are strong communicators and fast learners — legal knowledge can be taught, the right approach to clients is harder to train. Our fee earner and supervisor roles do require legal experience in the relevant practice area. Every job posting specifies what’s essential and what’s preferred. If you’re unsure, email us before applying.
What does the application process look like?
We use a structured application form below — four sections covering your background, career aspirations, practical information and a self-assessment of your current experience level. It’s designed to work across all levels: a graduate and a senior fee earner answer the same questions because the answers tell us different things. If there’s a match, we’ll be in touch to arrange a conversation. We aim to respond to every application within two weeks.
What if my background is outside of law?
We genuinely value different perspectives. Some of our strongest performers have come from housing, financial services, customer service and healthcare backgrounds before moving into legal claims work. What matters most is whether you understand the client’s situation and can communicate clearly — the regulatory framework and legal process can be learned on the job. Tell us your story and let us assess the fit.
Is there room to progress?
Yes — and more directly than at a larger firm. Because we’re growing and not heavily hierarchical, good people move up when they’re ready, not when a vacancy happens to open above them. We’re transparent about what progression looks like in each role and we’ll tell you at interview what the realistic path looks like.
How does the firm approach compliance and professional standards?
Seriously. We’re SRA-regulated and our Legal Director holds dual COLP and COFA responsibilities, which means our regulatory obligations are embedded at the most senior level of the firm. For anyone who has worked somewhere where corners were cut or compliance was treated as a box-ticking exercise, this is a different environment. We see high professional standards as a competitive advantage, not just a requirement.
